Why I started Blogging?

Honestly, I don’t really know. For a while I felt like I was lacking creative expression and needed a new outlet. I hadn’t given much thought to blogging before because I thought it was kind of dated (considering how YouTube and Instagram are the big things right now). Since I am waaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyy to awkward for youtube I decided to do some research on blogging.

I came across two blogging platforms that were popular and easy for beginners: Blogger and WordPress. I first took a look at Blogger and got too overwhelmed and shut that down very quickly lol. I then decided to take a look at WordPress and decided it was doable. After much encouragement from my friend (hey Amanda) and lots of YouTube tutorials later, here I am.

I still don’t know if/ how long I’m going to stick with blogging for but for now its something I enjoy doing on my down time. I can already feel myself slacking on my posts though and have been feeling uninspired lately. This is probably due to how busy I’ve become with school and how overwhelmed I’ve felt recently.

Hopefully when the semesters over and the sun is shinning I’ll have more time and feel more inspired to do more and different types of posts.

But for now we’ll see where this blogging adventure takes me and hopefully you’ll stick around to see how it goes!

Side note: I just started a bullet journal so maybe I’ll do a post on that after i get it going a bit? maybe?

Thanks for reading x

February Favourites

Uhmmmm where did February go?  no seriously, this was such a fast month! (not complaining though) Anyways, here are the products I loved and used over and over again in February:

Bralettes- I’ve officially been converted to bralettes and I couldn’t be happier about it. Goodbye uncomfortable underwire bras you will not be missed! The Aritzia ones are my go to.

Coconut milk hair oil- I recently picked this hair oil up at Shoppers Drug Mart for the first time. I wasn’t sure about it at first because it was on sale for only $9.99 but I actually really like it. Unlike Moroccan hair oils, this coconut based oil is very lightweight. It claims to prevent breakage and so far I’d say its doing a pretty good job.

VINYLUK nail polish-At first I was hesitant to buy this polish because it was so spendy ($14.99), but after falling in love with the colour and being intrigued by the “weekly polish” advertisement I gave in and bought it. The application didn’t feel any different then a regular $3.99 nail polish so I didn’t have high hopes. But I was VERY surprised when this polish actually lasted a full week without any chips! Definitely recommend checking out this brand.

Knock-off Artiste brush- I ordered this brush off of Amazon for around $4.00 about a year ago and only started really using it lately. This brush is perfect for rushed mornings when you don’t have time to spend with a beauty sponge. Another great thing about this brush is it requires so much less foundation to get good coverage because its not soaking up product as a makeup sponge would.

GOSH light’n shine lip glaze-This is another item I purchased on sale from shoppers, I picked this one up for $9.99. I was not expecting to be so in love with this gloss, but its been my go to this past month. Its almost holographic and comes with a light when you open it up which I’m obsessed with.

Organic Detox tea from David’s tea-I don’t have much to say about this one but if you haven’t tried it, go check it out!

5 Tips for Minimizing Stress at University

Finally. A much deserved reading break is among us. But don’t kid yourself, this is not a break. Whether it be studying for midterms, finishing projects or catching up on notes and readings, reading “break” can be quite hectic. Have you noticed that all your midterms or assignment due dates seem to line up on the same weeks? yah me too. These times can (and will) become stressful.

Here is where I come in. This being my fourth year, I’m pretty much a vet when it comes to  stressin’ at university.

I like most people am not so great with dealing with stress. I’m not going to lie, I haven’t always been good (who am I kidding, semi okay), at dealing with stress but I’ve found some things that help prevent me from becoming stressed out. If your interested, keep on reading.

1. Take time for yourself

Lighting some candles and sitting in a hot bath before bed or binge watching greys on netflix. There are so many ways this can be done but it so important to do so! I’ve found that giving yourself down time for a couple hours every day is essential. These mental breaks prevent the crazies (not that I would know…)

2. Stay ontop of it

If your like me and have a heavy course load, or are working along side uni, you know time is limited. Do yourself a favour and stay on top of your notes and assignments. This will minimize stress in those “crunch time” situations.
3. Exercise

Believe me I know. The last thing you want to do when your stressed out is take time out of your day to work out.  But do it! I swear you’ll thank me later. Working out or even just going for a walk will clear your head and allow you to focus more.
4. Sleep schedule

Having a night routine and good sleeping schedule is essential in university and life in general. Don’t try and pull an all nighter before an exam because believe me it does not work. Get those 8 hours!
5. Ask for help

Everyone thinks that as soon as you hit university your on your own, but your not. More times then not, your profs will be more then happy to help you if your struggling. It may seem intimidating at first but they want you to succeed (most of the time)

I just want to quickly apologize for slacking on blogging lately! School has been kicking my butt (hens why I’m writing this). I’ll be better I promise!

Also I hit over 200 followers and I just wanted to say thank you to everyone for all the love! My two months on WordPress has  been such a positive experience.

Anyways, I hope you enjoyed the post and it helps you out. If you have any of your own tips for reducing stress let me know!

Vancouver/Gastown Day

Riley and I spent a couple days in Vancouver and Gastown over the weekend. We checked out the steam clock, enjoyed some food and walked the brick road. Even though we both live a quick 30 minute drive from the city we have never spent a night downtown and aimlessly walked the streets.

Here are my favourite pictures from the weekend all taken with my iphone 6s (I really didn’t want to lug my camera around all day)

If you know any cool places in Vancouver or around let me know in the comments, I love checking out new places.

TGIF pt. 3

Hello everyone and happy Friday, we survived another week!

so, a lot has happened this week and is still happening, how was your week? Heres what mine looked like:

SNOW: Just when i thought we were done with it, we got hit with another dump of snow. throughout the week I’d say Kamloops got around a foot.

Papers: Once again, like everything else in university, assignments are always lining up. This time its papers. Within the next two weeks I have to write two 15-20 page papers.. yay me.

Scheduling: With reading break finally here and Valentines day around the corner, Riley and I decided to book a hotel in downtown Vancouver for a night. Having to schedule what day I would be trecking back home in the snow has been a little chaotic to say the least.

Disappointment: I was hoping to be able to go home yesterday (Thursday) but due to the weather we had to postpone to today. Well actually we are still waiting for the highway to open back up.. hopefully it does soon!

Coffee, coffee & more coffee: I’ve needed some extra help this week so obviously I turned to the thing I love most, coffee. This week Ive definitely been putting my Keurig to good use. I also checked out a cafe Ive been wanting to go to for a while in downtown Kamloops. Its called PDK and its famous for its massive donuts.

January Favourites

Hey everyone and happy February! I feel like I’ve been so absent in the WordPress community lately and I’d like to apologize. I’ve been very busy/stressed out with school lately.

Hence why I’m a week late with my January Favourite’s post.

These have been my favourite beauty products of the month:
1.) Dream Cream from lush– I just started re-using this product during the past month. I forgot how much I loved it… such a natural moisturizer that leaves your skin feeling amazing.

2.) NYX lip Lingerie in the colour baby doll– these lip lingere’s are such an inexpensive alternative to high end liquid lipsticks. I’m obsessed with all the colours they come in.

3.)Revlon ultimate all in one mascara– this mascara is jet black and gives such amazing length. I’ve also noticed it adds more curl to your lashes which is always a plus.

4.)Lush Sea Spray– I LOVE this hair mist/ hair spray. It holds curls well without that “crunchy” feeling afterwards.

5.) Milani Baked Blush in luminoso– I’ve had this blush for a while but had been extra loving it this month. I love an extra blushed look in the winter months.

My other Favourites this month:

1.) My day planner- yes of course, like every other uni student, one of my resolutions was to be more organized this year. So, I’ve been really on top of writing in my agenda and checking it daily.

2.) Toques– I have really had no choice but to live in toques this month due to how friggen cold it has been! In Kamloops the average temp this month has been -20 degrees celsius, too cold for me

3.)Dark Nail polish– honestly this really isn’t  a monthly favourite, more like a yearly favourite. I don’t know what it is about dark nail polish but I’ve been feelin it.

4.)Licorice Spice Tea– If you haven’t tried this tea, do it now. Thats all.

5.) Glasses– I don’t need or wear glasses, but I’ve always thought they are so cute! These ones are from South Korea, my sister picked up when she was there. Here is how I like to wear them:

Happy February Everyone!

TGIF pt. 3

Hey everyone and happy Friday!

It’s crazy that this is already my third “TGIF” post. It seems like time has flown by..
My week consisted of:

Going Home
-I went home last weekend and it was soooooo nice. I had been determined the week before to finish all of my homework so I was able to go home with no stress. I accomplished my goal and a 3 and a half hour drive later I was home. If you want to see what I got up to while I was home click here.

Still so blown away, thanks everyone x

– This week consisted of a lot of studying. I had a midterm today that took a whole week of preparation for. I think it paid off because I felt pretty good coming out. We’ll see how it turns out, fingers crossed.

New Recipe
– I found the most amazing tofu recipe ever. This is definitely how I will be making it a lot of the time. It’s a fried spicy honey garlic recipe I found on Pinterest. If you want to check it out Click Here, you wont regret it!

-I joined a volleyball inter-mural team with some people in my program and the first game was on Tuesday. It felt so good to get back on the court after a couple years of not playing. I definitely felt it the following couple of days lol.

Thanks for 100 followers!

Adventure: January 28th 2017

Riley and I took another adventure to Point Roberts, WA the other day.  We started the day off with soup and panini’s at the Saltwater Cafe. After lunch we walked the trails at Lily point (side note: we saw a corgi and an Italian greyhound aw!).

Pictured: Potato and kale soup from the Saltwater Cafe, Lily point trails, Riley with the camera and is London fog, me at the look out point.

Next we drove over to Lighthouse park. This beach has the nicest sunsets and the most perfect logs to sit while watching. If your lucky, you can even see some pretty cool marine life (I’ve seen sea lions and a pod of orcas from the beach before). We walked along the beach and took some pictures while finishing the rest of our coffee’s.

Pictured: some photo’s that we took at Lighthouse Park.

We decided we were too cold to stay at the beach any longer so we made our way to the cabin to have a fire. Luckily we got the fire built just before it got dark. It took a while for it to get going because everything was so damp but Riley made it happen (I think his new beard helped lol). We spent a couple hours just sitting by the fire, talking and laughing, it was so nice. We let the last couple of logs burn out and packed up. It was such a nice day.

Pictured: My favourite photos of the day. Some were taken at Lighthouse park and the others were taken at the fire (duh).

Hope you enjoyed the photos. If you ever get the chance to go to Point Roberts I highly recommend it.

Thanks for stopping by, Tessa.
